Escape the daily grind to experience miles of pristine coastline and explore an area rich in history originally developed by our nation’s wealthiest as a quiet, isolated retreat for their family and friends. Discover the glittering treasures and unhurried lifestyle that are the Golden Isles of Georgia.
Day 1 We begin with meal and rest stops en route to Florence, SC, where we will check into the Hampton Inn & Suites (843-662-7000) for the night. The hotel features an indoor pool with jacuzzi, fitness room, on-site convenience store and business center with complimentary high-speed internet. Room amenities include mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. Dinner this evening will be on your own with several choices in close proximity to the hotel property. Relax and unwind for the remainder of the evening.
Day 2 Following breakfast included at the hotel, we will depart for Tybee Island, GA with lunch included at The Crab Shack upon arrival. What began as a sleepy little fishing camp with a boat hoist, live bait sales and locals embellishing their “big catch” stories, has transformed into a restaurant featuring mouth-watering, fresh seafood from the surrounding waters to your table. After lunch, you will embark on a dolphin watching cruise to view the bottle-nosed dolphins in their natural habitat. While on your cruise, pass by shrimp boats and boat docks characteristic of old fishing villages, capture panoramic views of the Cockspur and Tybee lighthouses, as well as wildlife and natural areas distinctive to the low country. Once back on shore, you will depart for Jekyll Island, GA with dinner included en route. Upon arrival, you will check into the Jekyll Island Club Hotel (855-535-9547) for a glorious 3 night stay. Grand surroundings meet simple pleasures at this magnificent island resort that offers an outdoor swimming pool, fitness room, golf course, and nine miles of beach front, Water Park, nature center and much more. Note: Additional fees and/or reservations may apply for extra amenities at the Jekyll Island Club. Room amenities include coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and high-speed wireless access. Enjoy the rest of the evening to discover the fantastic amenities available on Jekyll Island.
Day 3 Breakfast will be included at the hotel before we depart for our Tram Tour of Jekyll Island’s Historic District. Designated as historic in 1972 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places, this enchanting riverfront is dotted with “cottages” once occupied by the rich and famous including the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, and Pulitzers. With its picturesque landscape and moderate climate, the socially elite visited Jekyll Island to experience a “sense of splendid isolation”. Next, your admission is included to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island. Jekyll is known for its significant annual turtle nesting, as well as seeing an overwhelming amount of sea turtles stranded on their beaches. Visitors to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center will learn about the conservation and rehabilitation practices, in addition to their participating in interactive exhibits that recognize the turtle’s amazing transformation from egg to adulthood. Lunch and dinner will be on your own with the remainder of the day to explore the island and take advantage of many activities available to you at the Jekyll Island Club.
Day 4 Following breakfast included at the hotel, you will depart for St. Simons Island, GA for a sightseeing tour of the island. The largest of the Golden Isles, St. Simons captivates its visitors with its remarkable beauty and fascinating history of bygone eras. The island’s streets are lined with moss-draped oaks that blend with the architecture indicative of its once Spanish heritage. See St. Simons Lighthouse, remaining operational since 1872, Fort Frederica National Monument and its antebellum plantations. Enjoy lunch on your own before boarding the Lady Jane for a shrimping excursion. This recently retired U.S. Coast Guard certified steel vessel has been painstakingly refurbished to take groups on a pleasure to learn about the shrimping industry from an onboard Marine Biologist. Assist the crew in sorting the shrimp from her catch of Blacktip, Buffer Fish, Amberjack and more. Once back on shore, you will return to Jekyll Island for dinner included at the hotel. Suggested attire for this evening is dressy casual as you dine on award-winning cuisine prepared in grand fashion. Relax and unwind after dinner as you have the rest of the evening to enjoy the resort amenities.
Day 5 After breakfast included at the hotel, you will check out and depart for Savannah, GA. Our first stop is Paula Deen’s The Lady & Sons Restaurant. A true taste of down-home southern cooking served with a heaping side of traditional warm hospitality, if you go home hungry from this world-renowned restaurant it is your own fault. Next, you will board an old town trolley for your local sightseeing tour of downtown Savannah. The trolley conductor recounts Savannah’s fascinating history and identifies its elegant architecture, ornate ironworks, and lush green squares as you ride through the cobblestone streets which make up Georgia’s first city, and rivaled only by its hospitable reputation. After your tour, you head toward home with an overnight stay in Florence, SC, where we will check-in to the Hampton Inn & Suites (843-662-7000) for the night. The hotel features an indoor pool with Jacuzzi, fitness room, on-site convenience store and business center with complimentary high-speed internet. Room amenities include mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. Dinner this evening will be on your own at any one of the area’s restaurants.
Day 5 Following breakfast included at the hotel, you will check out and depart for home with meal and rest stops en route.
